May 2020

I guess it is supposed to be the “Merry Month of May” but we are still on a tight lock down and it is getting to everyone, including me at this point!

Distance please

The only thing that is good is about Mid-May we were finally allowed to buy booze again, BUT only 1 bottle at a time on our day out. So that would be three bottles of whatever for the week! Not bad – we could now start to stock up again!. However, as a few of us got smart and realized that we usually visit 2-3 stores

when we do go shopping, we could buy 1 at each store!!! Within three days the cops got smart and warned that if we were caught by being stopped for a car search (which they really do) and were caught for having more than one bottle, we would be severely fined and/or could be arrested!. I do not need any more hassles right now so decided to be a good girl and just go with my 1 bottle. I am stocked fairly well, but just want to make sure in case anything should re-occur and we get locked down further or once released, it starts up again!

A few of us figured out that if we would really social distance – we could meet to have a glass of wine out on our big patio area by the pool and where the breezes blow!. And so we did a bit of socializing to celebrate a few occasions. First was a birthday party for 5 year old Benecio. He lives on the 2nd floor in this condo but he does not go around any strangers other than his family. So, many of us went down to the pool area under his

apartment and as he was held up high by the balcony, we were all able to sing Happy Birthday to him. He is truly so adorable and such a love. I would give anything to just hug him tightly. When he smiles, your heart melts.

And our second celebration was at one of the tables on the patio so we could social distance properly to celebrate Sue and Gerry’s Anniversary. It was a beautiful breezy afternoon and we did celebrate with Champagne, Wine and some appetizers. We realized we do not have to be “in the home” to have a celebration – we just took the home to the outdoors and had a great time enjoying the beautiful weather outdoors for a change! We are finding innovative ways to get thru this, and who knows- things may really change (for better or worse)!

Speaking of innovation – one can only go so long without having a hair cut or coloring their hair to get rid of the “gray.” So one day I got really brave and bought a box of hair coloring!. But first, I used the scissors and tried to clip VERY carefully! Have never done either so really did not know what I was doing but it really came out pretty good.

I will not tell you how much I chopped off at a later date in this month and it certainly does not look as good, but…………………!!!! I do not live in the city where your hairdresser, or someone would come to your house in the allotted time frame they could be out, so I need to make do as I can. There is no one in this area that I feel cuts hair the way I am used to, and the one Italian guy that thinks he is so great, charges a fortune and I have never seen a head of hair I liked that he did, so- I am what I am and will just live this way until some day within the next few months (I hope no longer) I can get back to Victor in the City and look wonderful again!!!! Guess we are all learning how to live differently in these times, and not too easy when you are used to doing things “MY WAY” !!!

Still no “help” (household) coming into work and only Carlos here daily to keep up what must be done in this building. I cannot use a mop as it is too heavy for me to move around. I do own a Wet Swiffer Jet but all out of liquid and NONE in this country right now at all, so cannot do that. Bribed Carlos to please come to mop my floors with Chlorox and water one day and was so happy. You can vacuum just so much, but they need to be mopped up afterwards. Cant wait for my girl to be able to come back and I think that is within the next two weeks.

Things are loosening up a bit for workers now. In fact I just heard that the authorities are allowing us to be out any day from 5am-7pm starting  this coming Monday, June 1st.  However, they have been known to rescind their orders, so we will know for sure on Monday. And if things don’t go well, that will change very quickly. We do not have a lot of places to go as nothing is still open. However, those restaurants that are cooking and delivering, we could now go to pick up. In fact, there is a fabulous bakery that makes wonderful Cappuccino and breakfast sandwiches. I will be the first to go and order to take out and just get in my car and drive someplace to eat right in the car. Just to be out!!!

Speaking of restaurants delivering- I have had delivery a few times. I do not eat out a lot to begin with, but this cooing every single day has been a royal pain and I have ordered a few times. Delivery is free and the meals are wonderful. I had a great meal one night of Pork Chops in a delicious sauce, and portion was so large, I had enough for two meals. Great!  But I cannot wait to finally go to REAL restaurant and to be SERVED!  How nice that will be. Not that I will be the first to go, but for an outdoor restaurant, I will not hesitate!.

As this month draws to a close, I know that we all here in Panama are wishing more things would open up, and they will in time. But we are going stir crazy and do need some of the freedoms that you are all enjoying in the U. S. and other places around the world. But the good part of this, as happened last month as well, the contacts that have re-kindled are the most wonderful things. I have been in touch with many old friends from the past as well as some family members. It has been wonderful communicating back and forth and I just hope and pray we will always allow the time for that, even when things start getting back to some normalcy. I don’t believe anything will ever be quite the same, and I do feel we are in for some rough sledding for a while, however, just knowing we have opened up many connections once again is so very heartwarming and I truly believe these things will last now. I think we realize the importance of knowing each other and knowing we have a “friend” out there. Guess the old saying of “something good always comes out of something bad” is true!

As I close out on this month, please know as always, I send my love to all and always look forward to hearing from you and all of your news. I will try my best to proof read better and correct the typos. Last month was really bad I realized after it was sent. Forgive me. I am really a human and not a Robot!!! Here’s to better times for us all, and looking forward to the BEST always. And until next month…………………….

PS I must add this ! I have been watching the news the past few days and altho I said this would never be a political format – this is really not but the riots in the United States have been horrific. I have cried at watching some of them and cannot believe that people would be paid to actually RIOT, STEAL and set fires as they are doing. Please, let us all pray for PEACE!  WE, as a nation of people must come together and hope this doesn’t happen again. Conquer and Divide will not and cannot be allowed to work in the greatest nation in the world. I pray for everyone and hope we can achieve peace for everyone.

And on a lighter note, one final picture of what I look like as I drive around: (Masks will still be mandatory for everything)
